NEW REFIT WORK AT THUNDERBOLT
DATE: July 2005
With the
completion of the repairs to the south basin seawall and the
installation of new floating docks, Thunderbolt Marine continues its
systematic investment in improving its infrastructure and continues
to add to its crew of skilled tradesmen. This summer, development of
a cabinet shop with sophisticated furniture making capabilities was
begun under the direction of cabinet maker Jens Falk. This
expansion complements our carpentry shop and is a vital component of
our comprehensive refit capabilities.
Jens is a
native of Denmark and apprenticed there as cabinet maker and was the
lead foreman for Palmer Johnson's Completion Center which fabricated
and installed yacht and aircraft interiors from their facility in
Savannah. The winner of the Showboats Refit of the Year Award for
2001, 150 foot Feadship M/Y Charisma, was one of the larger projects
Jens managed.

M/Y Lady Victoria, the
latest vessel produced by Rayburn Custom Yachts, stopped in for several
weeks to finish up some warranty work before traveling to her nearby
home in the Low Country.
The new Pendennis
47.5-meter motor-sailor, MITseaAH, with her telescopic carbon mast,
spent a month in the yard completing a wide variety of work in
preparation for a busy New England summer schedule.
Next to her is the 142-foot Trinity Chevy Toy commissioned in 2004,
making a quick stop for maintenance and repairs on her way to her new
home, also in the Low Country.
A full service yard conveniently
located 12 miles from the sea buoy on the Wilmington River, just outside
the historic city of Savannah, TMI is an easy approach from sea with no
overhead height restrictions. Mean river depth at low water is 12
feet (3.7 meters), and the basin in the yard is dredged to 14 feet (4.3
meters). The longest wet slip can accommodate a vessel up to 360
feet (110 meters) in length.
The yard boasts a 1,150
ton Syncrolift and a 160 ton Travelift, giving it the capacity to haul
vessels up to 200 feet (60 meters). A rail system allows for the
movement of hauled vessels between service positions in the yard and the
four enclosed buildings.
The beauty of Savannah's Low
Country provides a refreshing change from the buzz of South Florida, and
combined with the services and management now in place at TMI, makes it
an attractive choice for discerning yachtsmen. |
