Thunderbolt Marine
lays the foundation for its interior completion department
established last year by cabinet maker Jens Falk. Expansions include
capabilities of drawing complete interiors to industry demanded
standards of excellence using the latest innovations in 3d modeling.
Foreman of the
cabinet maker shop, Jens Falk, is a native of Denmark and learned
his m
aster
craftsmen skills there as a young apprentice. An early interest in
yachts led him to South Africa and eventually the states where he
honed his skills in new construction. Jens has experience working
with a traditional well-established yacht builder in Newport, R.I.
as well as a Ft. Lauderdale based company building, installing
semi-custom interiors in new builds on the west coast of Florida -
winning the Showboats Best New Semi-Production Boat of the Year
Award in Monaco in 2001.
Recently added to
the team is Steven Smith who holds a degree in Furniture Design from
the Savannah College of Art and Design. He learned the trade as an
apprentice with Falk, advancing to become a lead craftsman,
fabricating and installing yacht interiors. Most recently Smith was
managing the design and production of interiors for a large U.S.
mega yacht builder.
Smith comes to TMI
not only with industry specific skills and training, but also with a
history of working together. Smith and Falk worked together under
the leadership of TMI’s General Manager Ralph Heil when he was
General Manager of an FAA certified repair station specializing in
aircraft and mega yacht interiors. Their teamwork was responsible
for winning the 2000 Showboats Refit of the Year Award in Monaco for
the complete interior re-build of the 151’ Feadship Charisma.
