TMI Facility Improvements

DATE: September 2008

Thunderbolt Marine continues to improve infrastructure to meet the demands of its broadening customer base. Projects underway include additions to the side transfer capabilities, the demolition of the waterside restaurant to make way for new dockage, relocation and modernization of the machine shop and engineering of plans to build new sheds.

Side transfer capabilities have been added to the rail arrangement that accommodates the Syncolift, adding security to the movement of larger vessels utilizing the 1,150 ton lifting and transfer system.

With great nostalgia, the aging waterside restaurant demolition is nearly complete, making way for the installation of a seawall and new floating docks. The marina currently has 750 feet of dock space, and the expansion will add about 600 feet of dockage to the facility. Landscaping of the riverbank and entrance, and modifications to the parking lot, focused on preserving trees and foliage are also planned.

The machine shop has been moved to a larger building onthe north side of the yard doubling the shop size and improving work efficiency around the heavy machinery and tooling equipment.

A height variance has been granted by the Town of THunderbolt and engineering plans are in progress to raise the roof height on the new sheds to complement the existing tall shed nearest the river. The additional construction will increase the capacity for vessels of significant air draft to be undercover for projects that are weather sensitive. A total of three new bays will be added, one of which will be a dedicated spray booth constructed to NFPA standards.
